Why do I choose Aikido?

I choose Aikido because I will protect myself if I were attacked by other poeple. It's also because I like Japanese language and Aikido is using that language. Beside that , I want to discipline myself. By studying Aikido, I can keep my body fit and healthy. Lastly the most important reason why I choose Aikido is because I was attracted to Aikido's technique that is gentle and suitable for everyone.

I choose Aikido Yoshinkan Shudokan because Aikido is famous and well-known in certain parts of Malaysia. Aikido is very suitable for women and their practice is not very violent. The instructors are very good and they carry out their lesson well. Furthermore, Aikido is very safe and suitable to protect ourself. Actually, it is very suitable for women whom are gentles. That's why I choose Aikido as my martial arts to protect myself.

Naze I choose Aikido!??

Martial arts nowadays are something that you HAVE TO learn especially when you are born to be a girl. Why do I choose Aikido in the first place while most of my friends prefer Silat Cekak? Among all of martial arts in this school, I choose Aikido which is something that is totally new to me and to the other students. Even when I mention about Aikido in front of my parents, they would ask "nandesuka?" The reason was (still is) because Aikido, to me, is easier to learn (rather than other martial art that require you to break a house using your forehead). The word "Ai" means love in both Chinese and Japanese and Aikido means "The Way of Harmony". And to the others, Aikido (at least my friends think it is) means "kawai" instructor. Though I do not understand what that means at first because the instructor (that I know) is a maried "oyaji".

But somehow now my defination of Aikido (which means 'the easiest') changed a little bit. The concept of Aikido is harmony. Harmonizing yourself with your opponent so that he/she wont cause you too much damage. Aikido helps me to understand myself and my surroundings. It's not so easy anymore because you still have to practice hard to perform a perfect stance. And the most important thing in learning Aikido is discipline. (That's the hard part) And I think it helps one to be a responsible human being with a principle in life.

I have chosen to join the Aikido club because I'm interested in the art of self defence like Aikido. From my point of view, I think the movements in Aikido is more towards dodging compared to wounding or injuring the opponent. Aikido movements are unique and differs from other martial arts. It is graceful and soft but yet it is hard and powerful. Aikido also trains and teaches me to become disciplined. In addition to that, I would also know a little bit of Japanese language.
